Edinburgh harmony trio The Bevvy Sisters unite the richly seasoned voices of Heather MacLeod, Kaela Rowan and Roberta Pia in a heady cocktail of classy original songs and artful contemporary covers, combing vibrant vintage jazz, folk, gospel and Americana. These three sassy lassies launched with a sell-out show at Glasgow’s world-famous Celtic Connections festival, and have since grown from strength to strength. Their debut album St James Sessions won a string of glowing reviews and the group has enjoyed extensive radio airplay. Backed by guitar, mandolin and percussion, the powerhouse trio are a force to be reckoned with, their live shows proving their ability to re-invent the folk genre. Singer Eddi Reader was prompted to claim that “It’s my calling to be an understudy Bevvy Sister”, while folk heavyweights Lau said, “If we were girls, we’d want to be The Bevvy Sisters”.

Stunningly beautiful, endlessly shifting patterns of harmonic colour and overlapping resonance, creating a sound both rarefied and sumptuous.

The unchallenged inventors and high Kings of British folk rock.

Hailed as the originators of British Folk-Rock, Fairport Convention is celebrating its forty-fifth anniversary and remains one of the most entertaining bands on the live music scene. Their Birnam concert will feature material from Fairport’s most recent studio album, the critically acclaimed Festival Bell. But the band has a vast repertoire to draw on and this concert will also include favourites pulled from their back catalogue of ground-breaking albums such as Unhalfbricking, Full House, Angel Delight and Liege & Lief, which was voted ‘The Most Influential Folk Album of All Time’ by listeners to Radio 2. The band won the coveted ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’ at the 2002 BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards. The current line-up has been together since 1998.
Fraser Nimmo first 'opened' for the Fairports when he was a student at St. Andrews in 1972. Twenty-five years later he was invited to be the ‘special guest’ on their 30th anniversary tour which was 35 gigs (back to back) nationwide on the ‘Wintour’ of 1997.This will be the 41st time in 40 years he has been the support act for his favourite band. Roll on 50!

The most complete mix of originality and invention.

Trio AAB were formed when a bass player didn’t show up for a gig and twin brothers, Tom and Phil Bancroft, and guitarist Kevin MacKenzie decided to go ahead with no bass and enjoyed it. The band has since gone on to make 3 critically acclaimed CDs and to develop a reputation as being a seriously fun band exploring a whole range of influences – post Ornette bop, ECM jazz, Celtic folk, drum n bass, house, the Sound of Music, and indie rock – as well as becoming a powerhouse live act.

Beguiling, itchy, industrial creativity.

One of the best folk artists we have had at Belladrum. Those that saw his performance here have talked of little else; those that missed it, rue the day.
Joe Gibbs- Belladrum Tartan Heart Festival 2011

Heavily influenced by the music of Elvis Costello and Loudon Wainwright III Findlay Napier and his tight four-piece band deliver upbeat musical vignettes on a host of subjects that range from love sick librarians and dumb struck magicians to peeping toms and guilty johns all dispatched in his native accent. His catchy sing-along songs have been likened to that of Ben Folds or a Scottish Ian Dury. Nominated as Songwriter of the year in the 2010 ‘MG Alba Music Awards’ Napier has been emerging as a writer and performer of increasingly impressive stature and is clearly relishing the chance to put his own work centre stage. It certainly merits such standing, especially matched with his colourfully expressive, thrillingly powerful voice.

What a great live band! Excellent musicians and stage presence. They really impressed our late night audience at Wickham.
Peter Chegwyn, Organiser, Wickham Festival

It was, without exaggeration, one of the finest nights of music I’ve ever witnessed. Don’t dare let the world end without first finding out why.
Frank Rabey, Mountain Xpress, North Carolina

Hans Theessink has become one of the most sought-after artists of the international blues scene. He is more or less constantly ‘on tour’ and plays an average of 200 concerts a year - a modern day troubadour and entertainer who keeps on spellbinding audiences all over the world with his rich and emotional sounds. Through his unmistakable guitarwork, sonorous baritone voice and stage presence, Hans has attained a status which is unique for a European. He has performed at many of the most prominent North American music festivals such as the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, the Chicago Blues Festival and the Woody Guthrie Festival to name but three.

The crowd just went berserk!

Who We Are

A little bit about The Fiddle Tree

THE FIDDLE TREE is a not-for-profit organisation based in Birnam and Dunkeld, Perthshire, and has been promoting concerts and events in Highland Perthshire for over 9 years now. Since our formation in 2003, we have presented a wide range of highest quality performers from Scotland, England, Ireland, Europe, Australia, North America and Africa. The majority of these concerts were presented in the Birnam Hotel's magnificent Baronial Hall, but they have more recently been put on in the Birnam Arts Centre's state-of-the-art Main Hall although we continue to use the Hotel for our annual New Year Ceilidh and other concerts which suit the ambience and capacity of the Baronial Hall.
